Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Do I need a doctor’s order?

No. In the state of NH you don’t need a doctor’s order to see a physical therapist. However, it is very helpful to coordinate your care with all of your providers, and we may occasionally request an order or medical clearance for certain evaluations or treatments.

Do you take my insurance?

Natura Pelvic Health and Physical Therapy is not contracted with any insurance companies, including Medicare. We are considered an Out of Network Provider. We will provide you with a detailed invoice (superbill) that you may submit to your insurance plan for reimbursement. Use the insurance worksheet for questions to ask your insurance representative.

How many visits will I need?

Your therapist will discuss your goals, specific needs and evaluation findings at your first appointment. Most patients will benefit from at least 2-3 sessions. These first sessions are usually a combination of hands on treatment, education and instruction in a home program. For clients requiring more extensive hands on treatment 4-6 sessions over 1-2 months is most common. Patients with multiple or complex conditions, may benefit from 8 or more sessions.

How often will I need to schedule an appointment?

Most patients initially schedule 1x/week or every other week. More frequent or less frequent appointments may be recommended based on your specific situation. We work with each individual to develop a plan that works for them.

What should I wear to my first appointment?

Wear (or bring) something comfortable, and flexible. We will likely be assessing your posture, spine and movement patterns. Bulky or restrictive clothing can make this more challenging. A t-shirt or tank top with shorts or yoga pants is ideal, but not required

Can I bring someone (partner, family member or my baby) with me to my appointment?

Yes! You are always able to bring someone else with you. There are many reasons that patients bring someone else with them, to help with remembering information, to educate partners about their condition or to just feel more comfortable. You may have someone with you for just part or all of your appointment time. New moms, you know yourself and your baby best! You many bring them with you, or you may choose to take this time just for you. If you bring them with you, it is often helpful to feed them just before your appointment or when you first arrive. We have a comfortable waiting room with a changing table and supplies available.

Pelvic Health Questions

Do I need and internal pelvic muscle exam?

For many pelvic health issues, it is very helpful to palpate (feel) the pelvic floor muscles vaginally and/or rectally to assess the muscle tone, quality of contraction, and support of the pelvic organs. However, this is NEVER required. We are able to gather useful information by observing movement patterns, or palpating externally through clothing. Your comfort is the most important factor

What if I have my period on my appointment day?

We can still evaluate or treat the pelvic floor muscles while you are menstruating, based on your comfort. We have disposable menstrual cups available, or we can adapt your treatment plan, if needed. If you choose to reschedule, 24 hours notice is required to avoid a late cancellation fee.
